Elise reaches 4th round at US Open

Fourth round meant final stop for Elise at the US Open, who never went past the 1st round in New York before. Title defender Sloane Stephens (WTA 3) was too strong in two sets. "This is frustrating, because I did want to do better here", acknowledged Elise after the game.

Doubles runner up in Cincinnati

After three great tournaments, Elise is ready for the US Open. She played a lot of games in the last few weeks, snagging up a semifinal spot in San José and reaching quarterfinals twice, in Montréal and Cincinnati. In Cincinnati she also reached the finals in doubles with partner Demi Schuurs.

Elise takes 5th WTA doubles title at Libéma Open

The title of the ladies doubles tournament of the Libéma Open is for Elise Mertens and Demi Schuurs. The title was more or less a gift to the Dutch/Belgian combination. At 3-3 the other Dutch/Belgian pair Kiki Bertens/Kirsten Flipkens gave up.

Elise Mertens' run at Roland Garros ended in the fourth round - one round up from 2017 - with a defeat by the tournament's ultimate winner, world No.1 Simona Halep. The match was a reprise of their second-round encounter in Madrid three weeks before - their only previous match - which the Romanian took 6-0 6-3.

No.2 seed Elise Mertens added another WTA singles title to her growing collection, defeating Aryna Sabalenka to claim the Samsung Open for the third singles trophy of her career. With fellow Belgian Kirsten Flipkens she won her fourth doubles title of her career.
